Shana J. Scheid
Shana joined Lindsay, Pickett & Postel, LLC in March 2018. Ms. Scheid concentrates her practice in litigation matters. She regularly represents self-insured entities and insurers in premises liability, construction law, product liability and transportation law matters. She also has experience in insurance coverage litigation, subrogation recovery matters, and has represented condominium owners and property managers in foreclosure and assessment collection matters.
Ms. Scheid has tried over sixty cases, including twelve bench trials, in Illinois courts. She also has extensive experience representing clients in arbitration proceedings in Cook and the surrounding counties. She applies a creative approach to successfully negotiating settlements for clients at all stages of the litigation process. Ms. Scheid also has a demonstrated track record of success in disposing of claims against her clients through motion practice in the initial pleading stages through summary judgment.
In early 2018, Ms. Scheid was engaged in a two-week trial in Lee County, Illinois on behalf of an insurer seeking recovery of wrongful death payments from a rural doctor who allegedly overprescribed opioid medication to an insured-decedent. Ms. Scheid’s other recent representative experience includes:
Summary judgment for national retailer against customer that sustained a hip fracture after falling off an unbalanced ottoman.
Summary judgment for a property owner where a guest fell down a flight of stairs suffering a broken collar bone and fractured ankle.
Summary judgment for sewer cleaning company where plaintiff fell into sidewalk sewer with defective cover.
Defended a kitchen stool manufacturer on summary judgment related to claimed product defect involving foot rest.
Defended national garage door manufacturer on summary judgment in a finger amputation case involving a claimed product defect involving improper track assembly.
Defense verdict at trial for a driver operating a vehicle on the wrong side of the road in a head-on collision.
Defense verdict at trial for a taxi cab driver involved in an accident with a bicyclist on a sidewalk.
Substantial recovery based upon insurer’s negligent failure to place workers’ compensation insurance for a construction materials supplier denied coverage for an employee death.
Drafted governing documents for a newly formed condominium association created by the merger of six separate condominium associations while in bankruptcy.
Ms. Scheid is licensed to practice in the State of Illinois and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (Member of the Trial Bar), and has been admitted pro hac vice in numerous jurisdictions across the country. She is a Certified Arbitrator for the Cook and DuPage County Mandatory Arbitration Programs, and serves as a designated arbitrator in binding arbitrations. Ms. Scheid received her undergraduate degree from Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame and her law degree from DePaul University College of Law. Ms. Scheid is a member of the Woman’s Bar Association of Illinois, Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel, Defense Research Institute, and Illinois State Bar Association.
Ms. Scheid was recognized as a “Rising Star” in personal injury defense by Chicago Magazine and Illinois Super Lawyers in 2016 and as an “Emerging Lawyer” in 2015 by Leading Lawyers magazine. She was selected by her peers and advisory boards in a rigorous rating process and has proven herself professional, ethical and experienced at an early point in her legal career.
