Steve Becker Secures a Favorable Settlement in Mold Exposure Case
In a recent Lake County construction case, Steve Becker represented a general contractor whom the Lake County Health Department contracted with to perform various renovations. The work allegedly caused mold and harmful chemicals to spread throughout the building, resulting in severe health problems for three Health Department employees. The Plaintiffs made a global demand of $2.1 million. Steve successfully argued that our client subcontracted out the work; they retained a minimal presence on the jobsite; they did not control the means and methods of the subcontractors’ work; they did not have notice of the negligent installation or the allegedly hazardous condition; and did not owe a duty with respect to the chemical exposure suffered by the Plaintiffs. The case settled at mediation for $306,000, of which our client only paid $40,000.
